about

1. Si seulement j'étais grand [If only i were older]

Peter was a healthy and resourceful boy but he did not like going to school. He was constantly daydreaming, and when his schoolmaster asked him: "What are you thinking about?" he invariably replied: "On the day when I grow up." »

2. La vieille femme et le fil d'or [The old woman and the golden yarn]

One summer day, in the forest, he met an old woman who was watching him kindly.
- Look, Peter, she said, showing him a little round silver box from which a thin gold yarn came out, this is the yarn of your life! Each time you pull it, time passes faster. But be careful, you can't put it back in its box: as soon as it's fired, it goes up in smoke. So, Peter, do you want this?

3. Soudain que la vie est belle... [Then life is good...]

On the next day at school, his teacher scolded him for not learning his lesson. Then Peter pulled his yarn a little. Suddenly he heard the school bell ring : it was time to leave school. So Peter liked to pull more and more often on the yarn. Life was good! There were only holidays left.

4. Pierre le charpentier [Peter the carpenter]

After pulling a long piece of yarn, he found himself one morning apprenticed to a carpenter. This job pleased him very much. He climbed scaffolding, carried heavy beams and happily drove large nails into wood. He didn't pull the yarn much anymore, except on days when pay was a little long in coming. But when he had learned his job, impatience won him over again.

5. L'inquiétude [Worry]

One day he noticed that his mother had gray hair. He had a bad conscience: he had pulled too often on the yarn... Yet he continued. Business began to go badly. Money was scarce. One day they came to arrest Peter. But he had quickly taken out his box and pulled, pulled, pulled on the yarn until the end of this nightmare. But it cost him many years.

6. Les regrets [Regrets]

Peter looked at himself in a mirror and saw that he too was all wrinkled. So he said to himself that from now on he had to go as slowly as possible. One day, in the woods, he saw the old woman smiling at him again.
- So Peter, she said to him, has your life been as happy as you hoped?
- Oh! he answered. It all happened far too quickly. I only had the good times, but I always wanted more. Here I am now old and weak. You see, your gift didn't bring me happiness.

7. Vivement demain ! [Can't wait for tomorrow!]

- I would like to live my life again, but without the magic box, with days of joy and days of pain.
- I grant you, said the old woman smiling, you just have to give me back the box...
Peter was suddenly in his bed! Her mother was with him. She was young: Peter had become a little boy again.
- You are finally awake, Peter. You had bad dreams talking about a box and a golden thread...
In tears, Peter embraced his mother: “Oh mom! I am cured now. Can i go back to school?…”
